The production team for the SAND LAND anime adaptation has revealed that the previously announced project from Bandai Namco will be an anime film. It is scheduled to open in Japanese theaters on August 18, 2023.

Three new character visuals of the main characters Beelzebub, Thief, and Rao have also been released on the anime film’s official website, where more details can be found. Animation studios Sunrise, Kamikaze Douga, and ANIMA are handling the animation production for the film.

Toriyama’s original SAND LAND manga is a short series that was serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine from May 22, 2000 to August 28, 2000. A single tankoubon volume was released on November 2, 2000.

Viz Media releases the manga in English and describes the story as:

In the far future, war has destroyed the entire Earth, leaving only a barren wasteland where the supply of water is controlled by the greedy king. In search of a long-lost lake, Sheriff Rao asked the king of the demons for help…and got the king’s son, Beelzebub, and his assistant, Thief. Together the unlikely trio sets off across the desert, facing dragons, bandits and the deadliest foe of all… the King’s army itself! It’s travel adventure and tank action in this new story from Akira Toriyama, the creator of Dragon Ball Z!
