The first trailer for the Puella Magi Madoka Magica: Walpurgis no Kaiten movie is here, revealing a Winter 2024 Japanese premiere date and various scenes that are likely to fuel fan speculation and excitement. A second teaser visual was also released.

Puella Magi Madoka Magica: Walpurgis no Kaiten, or Puella Magi Madoka Magica: Walpurgisnacht Rising, is set after 2013’s Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie: Rebellion, which saw Homura Akemi creating a new world for the sake of Madoka Kanae. Homura is featured most prominently in the Walpurgisnacht Rising trailer, often with an intimidating air of menace and authority, but all of the Puella Magi Madoka Magica girls also make appearances. One shot shows Sayaka Miki with her face wrapped in bandages.

Beyond the returning characters, the trailer features the arresting visuals typical of the series, as well as multiple shots of a mysterious bow-wielding Magical Girl whose face is not clearly shown.

The original Puella Magi Madoka Magica anime series aired in 2011. It received two compilation movies and the Rebellion sequel movie, in addition to manga, novel, and game adaptations. The Magia Record game, which released in Japan in 2017, received its own anime series adaptation, which began with a 2020 first season and ended with a four-episode “final season” in April 2022.

Crunchyroll describes the 2011 anime as:

She has a loving family and best friends, laughs and cries from time to time… Madoka Kaname, an eighth grader of Mitakihara middle school, is one of those who lives such a life. One day, she had a very magical encounter. She doesn’t know if it happened by chance or by fate yet. This is a fateful encounter that can change her destiny- This is a beginning of the new story of the magical witch girls.
