The upcoming Kaina of the Great Snow Sea: Hoshi no Kenja movie, which begins screening in Japan on October 13, has received an over two minute-long “special trailer” featuring the film’s Yorushika theme song “Gekkouyoku.”
Hoshi no Kenja is the sequel to the Kaina of the Great Snow Sea fantasy series that ran from January to March 2023 with 11 episodes. The movie will see the addition of Natsuki Hanae to the cast as Byozan, a dictator in control of the weapon called the Builder who seeks to destroy the Orbital Spire Trees and reset the world for humanity’s sake.
The series, which is the 40th anniversary project for Polygon Pictures, was streamed by Crunchyroll and Bilibili outside Japan. Manga artist Tsutomu Nihei (Blame!) is credited with the original concept for Kaina of the Great Snow Sea. The premise is described as:
A world blanketed in an endless and ever-growing ocean of snow.
The people eke out a living, either huddled around the roots of enormous trees dotting the surface, or high in the canopy, which spreads over the planet’s atmosphere.
A chance meeting between Kaina, a youth from the canopy, and Liliha, a young woman from the surface, sets off a chain of events that will change the fate of the world.
