Netflix has released the first official trailer for its upcoming animated series Blue Eye Samurai, as well as a main key visual featuring the lead character Mizu. The series will consist of eight total episodes and debut on the streaming platform on November 3, 2023.

Blue Eye Samurai was first announced during Netflix’s DROP 01 virtual event earlier in September. A teaser trailer and preview clip of the series have also been previously released.

The animated series is created by Amber Noizumi and Michael Green, who also serve as executive producers and writers. Erwin Stoff is serving as the executive producer and Jane Wu is the supervising director and producer. Blue Spirit is in charge of the animation production.

Meanwhile, the main voice cast includes Maya Erskine as Mizu, George Takei as Seki, Masi Oka as Ringo, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa as The Swordmaker, Brenda Song as Akemi, Darren Barnet as Taigen, Randall Park as Heiji Shindo, and Kenneth Branagh as Abijah Fowler. Other supporting voice cast members include Stephanie Hsu as Ise, Ming-Na Wen as Madame Kaji, Harry Shum Jr. as Takayoshi, and Mark Dacascos as Chiaki.

Netflix describes the synopsis of Blue Eye Samurai as:

In 17th-century Japan, when borders are closed to the outside world, citizens would never see a face that was not Japanese, except in rare cases of illegal trade. Our hero, Mizu (Erskine), knows there were only four white men in Japan at the time of her birth and sets off to kill these men, one of whom might be her father, who made her a “creature of shame.” But revenge is not an option for women, so Mizu must forge her revenge quest while hiding her gender as well as her blue eyes.
