Netflix has revealed a trailer for the upcoming Onmyoji anime adaptation, which premieres on November 28.
The promotional video shows the legendary onmyoji Abe Seimei and his partner Minamoto Hiromasa dealing with various supernatural foes, and there’s also a preview of the Ling Tosite Sigure theme song, “Kodoku no Saibou.”
Onmyoji is based on the supernatural historical series by Baku Yumemakura, which began in the 1980s and includes short stories, novels, and illustrated stories. A guide book was released in 2016.
The Onmyoji series has previously inspired a several manga, a TV drama, two Japanese movies, and more. There is also a NetEase-developed game of the same name, which was in turn adapted into the Chinese movie The YinYang Master, and a separate Chinese film titled The Yin-Yang Master: Dream of Eternity.
Netflix describes the anime as:
With this new animated series, a fresh dimension is added to the timeless tale, focusing on the legendary figures of Abe Seimei and Minamoto Hiromasa, both from Japan’s Heian Period. Together, they confront humans who have been transformed into malevolent demons. Seimei, the eccentric yet unparalleled diviner of ancient Kyoto, teams up with Hiromasa, a well-meaning grandson of Emperor Daigo, to put a halt to the demons’ malevolent activities.
