A final trailer has been released for the Kitaro Tanjou: GeGeGe no Nazo anime movie ahead of its release in Japan on November 17, providing a look at more cuts of Kitaro’s fathers and the titular character himself.

Kitaro Tanjou: GeGeGe no Nazo‘s premise involves Medama-yaji and Kitaro entering the ruins of Nagura Village, which causes the former to recall the events that occured there 70 years ago. The film is part of a 100th year Birth Anniversary project for the late GeGeGe no Kitaro creator Shigeru Mizuki, which includes a new Akuma-kun anime.

GeGeGe no Kitaro originated in 1960 as a rented manga series titled Hakaba Kitaro. The GeGeGe no Kitaro manga series followed in 1965. The first GeGeGe no Kitaro anime was broadcast from 1968 to 1969, while the last prior to the 2018 version aired from 2007 to 2009. An anime based on Hakaba Kitaro aired in 2008.

Crunchyroll describes the 2018 GeGeGe no Kitaro anime as:

Nearly twenty years into the 21st century, people have forgotten the existence of Yokai. When a number of unexplainable phenomena plague adults of the human world with confusion and chaos, thirteen-year-old Mana writes a letter to the Yokai Post in search of answers, only to be greeted by Ge Ge Ge no Kitaro…

In addition to the various GeGeGe no Kitaro anime series and movies, Mizuki’s manga has also inspired live-action movies, video games, and stage plays.
