KADOKAWA has released a video for the upcoming Overlord: The Sacred Kingdom anime movie (Seiou Koku Hen/Holy Kingdom Arc) that announces its release window: 2024.
The video sees a masked Demiurge declaring to the titular Sacred Kingdom, “I’ve come to turn this kingdom into a hell… Where screams, shrieks, and curses, echo eternally!”
Like the anime series, Overlord: The Sacred Kingdom will be directed by Naoyuki Itou at Madhouse.
Overlord: The Sacred Kingdom was announced in 2021. The anime series began in 2015, with the fourth season premiering in July 2022. Overlord is based on the light novel series written by Kugane Maruyama and illustrated by so-bin, which Yen Press describes as:
For twelve years, the virtual world of Yggdrasil has served as the playground and battlefield for the skeletal lord Momonga and his guild of fellow monsters, Ainz Ooal Gown. But the guild’s glory days are over, and the game is shutting down permanently. When Momonga logs in one last time just to be there when the servers go dark, something happens-and suddenly, fantasy is reality. Overlord was originally a web novel that began publication on Arcadia in 2010. It later appeared on Shousetsuka ni Narou starting in 2012. The light novels began in 2012 and have 16 volumes as of July 2022. The light novel series has inspired a manga adaptation and a manga spin-off. There are also a few Overlord video games.
