A sequel to the 2014 3DCG anime movie Expelled from Paradise, titled Liberation from Paradise, has been announced. The production of the new film is still in its infancy, but a teaser video and a key visual, both featuring its heroine Gabriel braving a fierce snowscape with fiery determination, have been revealed.

Like Expelled from Paradise protagonist Angela Balzac, Gabriel is a DEVA agent, hence the familiar leotard-like costume. Her design was previously shown in a teaser visual from November 2022, which came with a new project announcement video from Toei Animation.

Liberation from Paradise‘s Japanese title is Rakuen Tsuihou -Kokoro no Resonance- (Resonance of the Heart). The first movie was titled Rakuen Tsuihou -Expelled from Paradise-.

In July 2021, Expelled from Paradise director Seiji Mizushima (Beatless and D4DJ First Mix) revealed that he was working on something new with Nitroplus’ Gen Urobuchi (Expelled from Paradise scriptwriter, Puella Magi Madoka Magica series composer) and illustrator Masatsugu Saitou (Expelled from Paradise character designer, Eureka: Eureka Seven Hi-Evolution co-main designer). According to the Liberation from Paradise: Kokoro no Resonance presentation at the Virtual Anime Fes. event, discussions for a Expelled from Paradise sequel started “about five or six years ago.”

In Expelled from Paradise, most of mankind have become digitized and live in a virtual society called DEVA. When a hacker manages to infiltrate this supposed paradise, Angela is sent to ruined Earth with a physical body to find the culprit.
