A new trailer for the One Piece anime’s “Egghead Island Arc,” which kicked off on January 7, has been released.

The “Egghead Island Arc” takes Luffy and the Straw Hats to the titular futuristic island, which is home to the scientist Dr. Vegapunk (Youhei Tadano). The arc’s other new characters are Vegapunk’s satellites Shaka (Shuuhei Sakaguchi), Lilith (Aya Hirano), Pythagoras (Tokuyoshi Kawashima), Atlas (Kaede Hondo), and York (Mutsumi Tamura).

The Toei Animation-produced One Piece anime series first began airing in 1999 and is currently streamed by Crunchyroll and iQIYI outside of Japan. The show passed 1000 episodes in 2021, and in 2023, it received its first ending song since 2006

The anime is an adaptation of the manga by Eiichirou Oda, which started its run in Weekly Shonen Jump in 1997 and has been collected into 107 tankoubon volumes as of November 2023. VIZ Media describes the manga as:

As a child, Monkey D. Luffy was inspired to become a pirate by listening to the tales of the buccaneer “Red-Haired” Shanks. But his life changed when Luffy accidentally ate the Gum-Gum Devil Fruit and gained the power to stretch like rubber…at the cost of never being able to swim again! Years later, still vowing to become the king of the pirates, Luffy sets out on his adventure…one guy alone in a rowboat, in search of the legendary “One Piece,” said to be the greatest treasure in the world…

A Production I.G-produced OVA was released ahead of the series in 1998. A WIT STUDIO-produced remake titled The One Piece was announced last year. A live-action Netflix adaptation was released in 2023 and has been renewed for another season.
