Shinsuke Yanagi (Bottom-Tier Character Tomozaki) is directing the show at Project No.9. The character designs are from Shouto Shinkai (Bottom-Tier Character Tomozaki 2nd STAGE Attack Families game design), while the series composition is by Yoriko Tomita (My Dress-Up Darling). Yukari Hashimoto (A Sign of Affection) is the music composer.

Senpai is an Otokonoko is based on the LINE Digital Frontier-published manga by Pomu, which placed first in the 5th Manga We Want to See Animated Ranking and was the 2nd runner-up in the web category of Tsugi ni Kuru Manga Taishou 2021. Webtoons describes the plot as:

Can true love really overcome any obstacles? Saki, a high school student, confesses her feelings to Makoto. Taken aback, Makoto reveals his secret, but the sudden discovery doesn’t seem to bother Saki who is already head over heels for him. After being rejected, Saki asks Ryuji, Makoto’s childhood friend, for some advice on how to win his heart. A love triangle unfolds when Ryuji realizes that he might also have some feelings for his old friend.

The manga began serialization on Line Manga in 2019 and has seven Ichijinsha-published tankoubon volumes as of November 2023. Crunchyroll has licensed the anime, which is set for a 2024 premiere.
