Voice actress Ai Kayano is joining the cast of the original TV anime series Mayonaka Punch as the steadfast and slightly intimidating Yuki. A new character visual and quick 15-second commercial highlighting her personality was also released, along with six others throughout the week.
Kayano joins a main voice cast that consists of:
- • Ikumi Hasegawa as Masaki
- • Fairouz Ai as Live
- • Yuina Ito as Ichiko
- • Hina Yomiya as Fu
- • Hitomi Ueda as Tokage
The anime series is scheduled to premiere sometime in July 2024.
Osamu Honma (Ya Boy Kongming!) is directing the anime, with Harapeko Penguin Troupe’s Shirasaka Hideaki (Ya Boy Kongming! co-scriptwriter) as series screenwriter, Ryouta Arima (Hell’s Paradise co-chief animation director) as character designer, and Tsukasa Kotobuki (NG Kishi Ramune & 40 DX: Wakuwaku Jikuu – Honoo no Daisousasen character designer, Mobile Suit Gundam: Cucuruz Doan’s Island co-character designer) as original character designer. P.A. Works is handling the animation production.
A manga adaptation by Tomomi Usui was serialized in Kadokawa Shoten’s Young Ace magazine on March 4, 2024. A novel adaptation has also been announced and will be published at a later date.
Mayonaka Punch is described as a girls comedy that follows a group of NewTubers who create and upload videos to the NewTube sharing website. The main story follows Masaki, a member of the NewTuber group “Harakiri Sisters,” who is let go because of a certain incident. Looking to make a comeback, Masaki meets a girl named Live and team up to reach 1 million subscribers together on NewTube.
