Touken Ranbu Kai: Kyoden Moyuru Honnouji is the latest anime series to be inspired by Nitroplus and DMM Games’s Touken Ranbu sword-raising simulation game, which involves “sword men” defending history from an enemy who seeks to alter it. This series, which is based on a stage play of the same name, follows four swordsmen heading for the Honnoji incident, which saw the death of Oda Nobunaga.

Other Touken Ranbu anime include the Touken Ranbu -Hanamaru- series, the Toku Touken Ranbu -Hanamaru- Setsugetsuka movie trilogy, the Katsugeki Touken Ranbu series, and the upcoming Katsugeki Touken Ranbu film from Ufotable.
