The Demon Lord 2099 anime adaptation has gotten a teaser trailer, main staff details, and a fall 2024 release window.
The J.C.STAFF production is directed by Ryo Ando (Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury assistant director) with Yuuichiro Momose (The Witch and the Beast) as series composer and scriptwriter, Ryosuke Tanigawa (My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU Climax co-main animator) as character designer, and Tatsuya Katou (Yohane the Parhelion: Sunshine in the Mirror) as music composer.
Demon Lord 2099 is based on the Fantasia Bunko light novel series written by Daigo Murasaki and illustrated by Kureta. Yen Press describes the plot of the books as:
The cyberpunk metropolis Shinjuku—a massive city-state bedecked with neon signs, towering skyscrapers, and the latest cutting-edge technology. It is here, in year 2099 of the Fused Era, where the legendary Demon Lord Veltol has his second coming five centuries in the making. But this landscape is nothing like the one he conquered all those years ago, for the fusion of magic and engineering has elevated civilization to dazzling, unprecedented heights. Veltol may have been reduced to a historical footnote, but make no mistake…this brave new world will be his for the taking!
The light novels began publication in 2021 and has three volumes as of June 2023. It won in the 33rd Fantasia Award’s Alternate Dimension category. The series initially inspired a now-discontinued manga adaptation by Kiiro Akashiro. A new adaptation by Kan Sakurai started serialization on Shonen Ace Plus in March 2023.
