Yaiba was serialized from 1988 to 1993 in Shonen Sunday and and was the winning title of the 38th Shogakukan Manga Award Children’s category. The titular character of the story is a young samurai-in-training.

The manga previously inspired a Pastel-produced anime series that ran from 1993 to 1994. The new anime will have Aoyama’s full supervision.
