A new key visual, PV trailer, and main theme songs have been revealed for the upcoming Twilight Out of Focus Boys’ Love TV anime series, which will premiere in Japan on July 4, 2024.
The latest trailer for the BL anime adaptation also previews the main theme songs for the series. The opening theme is “Crank Up” by actor and singer Ikusaburo Yamazaki, while the ending theme is “Unchain×Unchain” by music duo Amber’s.
Toshinori Watanabe (Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest, Edens Zero Season 2, Teppen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) is directing the adaptation, with Yoko Kikuchi (Kuroko’s Basket, Junjou Romantica) as character designer, and Yoshimi Narita (Wonderful Precure!, Shikimori’s Not just a Cutie) as series screenwriter. Studio Deen is in charge of the animation production.

Meanwhile, some voice cast members of the anime’s main cast are reprising their roles from the drama CD, which includes:

- • Yuuma Uchida as Hisashi Otomo
- • Makoto Furukawa as Zin Kikuchihara
- • Masatomo Nakazawa as Giichi Ichikawa

Jyanome’s original BL manga series ran in Kodansha’s BL Honey Milk magazine from June 10, 2018 March 10, 2019 and has subsequently been published in five installments. The fifth part of the series “Long Take” began serialization on August 10, 2022. Six tankobon volumes have been released as of May 2024.
The series also inspired a spin-off titled in English as Twilight Out of Focus 2: Afterimages in Slow Motion, a sequel, and the fourth part of the series “The Evening Monologues.”

Kodansha USA releases the Twilight Out of Focus manga in English digitally, describing the first volume as:
Film enthusiast Mao Tsuchiya and his lone wolf roommate Hisashi Otomo make three promises: ① That Mao will never tell anyone that Hisashi is gay and has a boyfriend, ② That Hisashi will never approach Mao “in that way,” and ③ That they’ll respect each other’s “private time.” The second-years’ ground rules should ensure a peaceful life together in their dorm, but reality is never as simple as it seems in the movies, and some things are not so easily promised…
