Shortly after the Season 3 finale of The Irregular at Magic High School, it has been announced that an anime film adaptation of the “Yotsuba Succession Arc,” based on the light novel’s 16th volume, is in production. Season three first premiered in Japan on April 5, 2024 and ended with the 13th episode on June 28, 2024.

A premiere date for The Irregular at Magic High School The Movie Yotsuba Succession Arc has not been announced, but a 15-second announcement video was released to confirm its production. 

Jimmy Stone (The Irregular at Magic High School: Visitor’s Arc and The Irregular at Magic High School: Reminiscence Arc assistant director) directed the third season, with Lightworks’ Muneo Nakamoto (The Irregular at Magic High School: Visitor’s Arc and The Irregular at Magic High School: Reminiscence Arc) as scriptwriter, Kana Ishida (The Irregular at Magic High School series) as character designer and chief animation director, Asumi Hashimoto (The Irregular at Magic High School: Visitor’s Arc and The Irregular at Magic High School: Reminiscence Arc co-animation director) as sub-character designer, and Taku Iwasaki (The Irregular at Magic High School series) as music composer.

Eight Bit handled the animation production after working on The Irregular at Magic High School The Movie: The Girl Who Calls the Stars anime film, The Irregular at Magic High School: Visitor’s Arc, and The Irregular at Magic High School: Reminiscence Arc. Madhouse was the first season’s animation production company.  

Crunchyroll is streaming all previous seasons of the anime, as well as the anime film. 

The series originated as a web novel by Tsutomu Sato on Shosetsuka ni Naro from October 12, 2008 to March 21, 2011. It was then published as a light novel series by ASCII Media Works’s Dengeki Bunko imprint with new illustrations from Kana Ishida on July 10, 2011 to September 10, 2020. A total of 32 volumes were released, along with six additional side story volumes.

A sequel series titled The Irregular at Magic High School Magian Company was published in October 2020. Another spinoff series titled New – The Irregular at Magic High School: Maidens of Cygnus was launched in January 2021. The series has also inspired several manga adaptations and video games. 

Yen Press releases the light novels in English, describing the synopsis of the first volume as:

The year is 2095. Magic has been tamed as another form of technology, and the practice of magic is now a rigorous discipline. Brother and sister Tatsuya and Miyuki Shiba are just about to start their first year at the renowned First Magic High School of Japan. But the school’s ironclad rules mean that the brilliant Miyuki enters the prestigious Course 1, while her older brother, Tatsuya, is relegated to Course 2–and that’s just the beginning of their troubles!
