Michio Fukuda (Tesla Note) is directing the anime, with Yasuhiro Nakanishi (Chained Soldier) as series screenwriter, Kanna Hashidate (Extreme Hearts co-chief animation director) as character designer and chief animation director, and Tatsuhiko Saiki (The Dawn of the Witch) as music composer. Seven Arcs is the animation production company, with SynergySP providing animation production cooperation.

Meanwhile, the anime’s main voice cast includes:

  • • Ryota Suzuki as Toka Mimori
  • • Saki Miyashita as Seras Ashrain
  • • Ayumi Tsukui as Piggymaru
  • • Ami Koshimizu as Vicius

The anime is based on the isekai light novels written by Kaoru Shinozaki and illustrated by KWKM. The series was first published by Overlap Bunko on July 25, 2018 and has released 12 volumes as of July 2024, along with a short story collection. The light novels began as a web novel on Shosetsuka ni Naro on November 4, 2017.

The series also inspired a manga adaptation, written by Keyaki Uchi-Uchi and illustrated by Sho Uyoshi in 2019, and Shinozaki credited with the original story. Seven Seas Entertainment releases the Failure Frame light novels and manga in English.

Crunchyroll is streaming Failure Frame worldwide, outside of Japan, and describes the synopsis as:

Touka always faded into the background at school. And when he’s summoned to another world with his classmates, that still doesn’t change! They all acquire top-rank skills, except Touka, who’s deemed a failure and cast to ancient ruins by the goddess Vicius. Turns out, his low-rank skills may not be so useless after all. Now, he seeks revenge against the goddess, and his true nature is revealed.
