A live-action drama adaptation of the My Dress-Up Darling manga will begin airing on MBS and TBS on October 8 JST (effectively on October 9 JST past midnight) in the Dramaism block.
Model and actor Riko Nagase is playing Marin Kitagawa, the otaku gal heroine of the cosplay-themed romantic comedy series. Meanwhile, stepping into the shoes of male protagonist Wakana Gojou is Kota Nomura. The MBS webpage for the My Dress-Up Darling drama says that this is Nomura’s first lead role.
The staff includes Koji Shintoku (Honey Lemon Soda) as director and Satoko Okazaki (Lovesick Ellie) as screenwriter.
The My Dress-Up Darling manga by Shinichi Fukuda debuted in Square Enix’s Young Gangan in January 2018 and will release its 14th tankoubon volume on November 25, 2024. Square Enix describes the premise as:
Traumatized by a childhood incident with a friend who took exception to his love of traditional dolls, doll-artisan hopeful Wakana Gojou passes his days as a loner, finding solace in the home ec room at his high school. To Wakana, people like beautiful Marin Kitagawa, a trendy girl who’s always surrounded by a throng of friends, is practically an alien from another world. But when cheerful Marin–never one to be shy–spots Wakana sewing away one day after school, she barges in with the aim of roping her quiet classmante into her secret hobby: cosplay! Will Wakana’s wounded heart be able to handle the invasion from this sexy alien?!
A CloverWorks-produced TV anime aired during the Winter 2022 anime season and has a sequel announced.
