The anime is based on the manga series by Marcey Naito, which originally began as a one-shot in Kodansha’s Weekly Shonen Magazine on December 2, 2020. It was then serialized as a full series on April 21, 2021, and has released 16 tankobon volumes as of August 2024.
Kodansha USA is releasing the manga series in English, describing the synopsis as:

But when he arrives at his new foster home, a working shrine, his dream of a quiet place to study goes up in smoke. Not only will he be living with the three beautiful, lively Amagami sisters-but he learns that he must marry one of them and take over the shrine!
Meanwhile, the upcoming The Quintessential Quintuplets* TV Special will begin its three-week Japanese theatrical screening on September 20, 2024, with Bibury Animation Studios. The anime is based on the manga series by Negi Haruba, which debuted in Kodansha’s Weekly Shonen Magazine on August 9, 2017 and ended on February 19, 2020 with 14 tankobon volumes.

The manga has previously been adapted into two TV anime series and a feature length anime film. It has also inspired several video games.
Kodansha USA releases the manga in English, and describes the synopsis as:
Five girls who want to do anything but study, and their tutor: a high school boy who’s got book smarts and not much else. Futaro Uesugi took the tutoring gig because he was desperate for cash, but when his students—the five beautiful daughters of a wealthy businessman — find five times the excuses to slack off, what can he do?! At this rate, the sisters won’t graduate, so if he wants to get paid, Futaro must think of a plan to suit each of them … Which feels hopeless when five out of five of them think he’s a loser!
