The anime is based on the Kodansha-published manga drawn Ea Matsukoto, which is based on a story by Hanyuu. In Hazure Skill “Kinomi Master” ~Skill no Mi, Light, a boy who aspires to be the greatest adventurer in history gains a cultivation ability after eating a skill-granting fruit. In contrast, his childhood friend is bestowed with a swordsman skill. After a period of farming, chance causes Light to consume a second skill fruit. While this would normally be fatal, Light’s power allows him to gain more abilities instead, a fact that reopens his path to becoming an adventurer.

The manga is serialized in Suiyoubi no Sirius and has six tankoubon volumes as of June 2024. Hazure Skill “Kinomi Master” originally debuted on Shousetsuka ni Narou as a web novel in 2020. A light novel volume illustrated by Yasutaka Isekawa was released under the K Lanove Books label in May 2022.
