Ryo Kono, an anime background art director who worked on titles like Devilman Crybaby and Mob Psycho 100, has passed away.
A recent post on Kono’s X (formerly Twitter) account, made by her nephew, said that she died suddenly on October 23 JST. Gastrointestinal bleeding is suspected to be the cause.
Kono, whose real name is Hiromi Kono, was a Tokyo native who had been involved in the anime industry since at least the 1980s. Her person profile on Madhouse‘s website says that the first Madhouse production Kono worked on was 1983’s Genma Taisen.
