An anime adaptation of the Korean webtoon Latna Saga: The Survival Sword King has been announced, with production planned to begin within this year.
The Latna Saga: The Survival Sword King animation owes its existence to a newly announced partnership between Japan’s Pierrot and South Korea’s Red Dog Culture House. Red Dog Culture House has worked on animations like Dragon Age: Absolution and League of Legends: Star Guardian, and also founded the Studio KHIT label that Latna Saga falls under.
Pierrot revealed that the two companies had inked a business deal pertaining to animation co-production (the word used here is 製作 [seisaku], which is typically refers to the funding and management-type of producing) and investments in August in an effort to target the global market. The team-up will be in play for the next three years, and its production and investment efforts will involve a production committee formed in Japan. Adaptations of popular manga in Japan or original South Korean webtoons are being considered for future projects.
Latna Saga debuted on Kakao Page in 2019. Kyungbae Lim is credited with the original story while Studio K-hit and Kwon Soon-q have artist credits. TAPAS describes the premise as:
After being recently discharged from military service and just drifting through life, Hanbin Ryu is suddenly transported to another world. However, his “guide line,” the system bestowed upon him to help with his survival and growth, was filled with errors, causing him to be stuck in the tutorial stage for over 20 years. When he is finally released from this personal hell, he finds everyone has turned against otherworlders like him. Just how will this low-level, super-tutorial newbie survive?
