Bandai Namco Entertainment has released a “How to Play” trailer for the recently announced Death Note Killer Within “online social deduction game.”
The gist is that a match alternates between two phases: Action and Meeting. During the Action phase, Team Kira and Team L will carry out tasks in order to achieve their respective goals. For instance, Kira and his follower have to steal the IDs of the investigators to take them out with the Death Note, and killing L will result in a victory for Team Kira. When it’s the Meeting phase, players can try to arrest the one who’s controlling Kira by voting based on the evidence they’ve accumulated.
Adding another layer is the Command Card system, where Kira, Kira follower, and L can trigger special abilities to aid their respective efforts. The resource for using the cards is generated by raising a team’s World Progress level, and filling out the World Progress bar is another way of securing victory if the teams can’t take down the other side’s leader.
Death Note Killer Within will be released on November 5 for PS5, PS4, and Steam. It will also be included with PlayStation Plus’ free games for November. The game’s Steam store page lists Grounding Inc. as the developer.
PlayStation Blog describes Death Note Killer Within as:
Players will be split into two teams with different objectives. To win the game, players will need to figure out each other’s identities and either eliminate L who threatens Kira’s power or seize the Death Note. Enjoy a battle of wits as Kira and his followers, or as L and the investigators in the world of Death Note. As equally matched opponents, the two teams clash to control the game while hiding their true identities from each other. The Death Note is hidden among the players, leading to a thrilling game of cat and mouse until one team overpowers the other. Each role has its own characteristics, allowing you to master a deep sense of strategy and tactical play. Depending on your assigned role, a wide range of strategies can be formulated, and each randomized scenario develops into a high-stakes game of tactics.
