In Episode 7 of the When Supernatural Battles Became Commonplace anime adaptation, Saori Hayami‘s Hatoko Kushikawa loses her cool and rants about main protagonist Jurai Ando’s (Nobuhiko Okamoto) chuunibyou behavior. That memorable outburst, which contains multiple instances of Hayami screaming “I don’t understand” (the final trigger for her rant is Ando telling her, “You wouldn’t understand, anyway,” after repeatedly rebuffing her enquiries about his conversation with the character Tomoyo Kanzaki), has now been modified for Nissin’s new Donbei instant noodle series commercial, “Ura Donbei Wakannnai yo!-hen.”

At the start of the commercial, Kushikawa encourages Ando to try out Donbei varieties that he doesn’t usually eat, causing him to remark that they wouldn’t know whether those would taste good. This triggers an impassioned speech by Kushikawa about Nissin’s Donbei noodles as she takes issue with Ando’s habit of sticking to the Kitsune Udon and Tempura Soda variants (and, of course, his chuunibyou mannerisms).

“Also, the monologues you give while eating the usual Donbei are weird! Don’t say that the Tempura Soba is soba that has tempura sealed in it. What’s so special about sealing mere tempura? If that’s the case, the Demon Kakiage Udon, it has double the cost, is thick, and, most of all, has a demon sealed in it! It’s absolutely more awesome!” Kushikawa says at one point.

Another highlight: “Shichimi (a Japanese spice mix) is not a flame, it’s [made from] chilli peppers and other things. It’s plant-based! If shichimi is an ardent flame, then the Karamen Udon’s broth, spicy and tasty thanks to its roasted chilli peppers, is beyond fire and is magma!”

Right after that, Kushikawa declares that Donbei that aren’t featured in commercials are tastier, and lists varieties like the Kamodashi (duck stock) Soba, Curry Udon, and Niku Udon, as well as the previously mentioned Demon Kakiage Udon and Karamen Udon. She goes on to tell Ando, “You can’t even be adventurous with Donbei flavors. Don’t say that you want to adventure in another world! Determine their taste with your own tongue! I’m begging you, so please don’t believe things like Nissin’s commercials! Saying that there’s no need to try other Donbei — I don’t understand, I don’t understand, I don’t understand, I don’t understand. I don’t understand!!”

When Supernatural Battles Became Commonplace aired in 2014 and is based on the GA Bunko light novel series by Kota Nozomi. Masanori Takahashi (Rifle Is Beautiful) directed the anime at TRIGGER. Crunchyroll describes the premise as:

A group of five boys and girls suddenly acquire supernatural powers. Ready to fight in galactic battles to defend human cause… they are struck by the realization that there are no wars, no conspiracies, no evils empires, no nothing in their high school life. They instead decide to idly have fun by wasting their powers away.
