A new key visual has been revealed for the ongoing third season of Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World-, highlighting the many characters that will be featured in the upcoming “Counterattack Arc.” The new eight-episode arc begins broadcasting in Japan on February 5, 2025.

The third season’s first “Attack Arc” ended today with the eighth episode (58th episode overall) after first being broadcast on October 2, 2024. Episodes 51–58 will be rebroadcast weekly in Japan starting next week.

Masahiro Shinohara (Is This Order A Rabbit? Bloom assistant director, Trapezium) is directing the third season, with Masahiro Yokotani (returning) as series screenwriter, Haruka Segawa (Call of the Night) as character designer and chief animation director, Tappei Nagatsuki as script supervisor, and Kenichiro Suehiro (returning) as music composer. White Fox is handling the animation production. 

Other staff involved in the series include Keitaro Chiba (Re: Zero Season 2 Episode 37 and 44 co-animation director) as monster designer, Bihou’s Norika Kinoshita (Ascendance of a Bookworm) as art director, Atelier Pontdarc’s Izumi Sakamoto (returning) as color designer, T2 Studio’s Miori Miyagi (Uncle from Another World assistant compositing director) as compositing director, and Shinichiro Kato (Sengoku Youko, Utawarerumono Mask of Truth) as animation producer. 

Meanwhile, the anime’s main voice cast includes:

The first two seasons of the isekai dark fantasy anime premiered in 2016 and 2020, with the second season being released in split-cour format. Season 2’s second cour premiered in January 2021. In July 2020, Tsunaki Yoshikawa, the animation producer of the first two seasons, founded Atelier Pontdarc.

The anime is based on the light novels, written by Tappei Nagatsuki and illustrated by Shinichiro Otsuka. It was published under Media Factory’s MF Bunko J label on January 24, 2014 and has released 39 volumes as of September 2024, along with several side stories and short story collections. Yen Press licensed the main light novels and several manga adaptations for release in English.

In addition to the main Re:ZERO light novel volumes, the series has inspired various spinoff manga and video games. The manga adaptation of “The Stars That Engrave History Arc” (which uses a different title) began serialization this year.

Crunchyroll is streaming all seasons of Re:ZERO and describes the third season as: 

A year has passed since Subaru’s victory at the Sanctuary. He savors a life of fulfillment while Emilia’s camp stands united for the royal selection—until a fateful letter arrives. Anastasia, a royal selection candidate, has invited Emilia to the Watergate City of Priestella. But as the party begins its journey, crisis stirs beneath the surface and Subaru meets a cruel fate once again.
