Katsuki Bakugo has been crowned the most popular My Hero Academia character, winning the “World’s Best Hero” worldwide fan popularity poll among 278 characters in the series. Shonen Jump announced the final results in a special YouTube video revealing the rankings in their respective orders, as well as a celebratory video focusing on Bakugo’s win.
Known professionally as Great Explosion Murder God Dynamight, Bakugo will also receive a bronze statue made in his honor and has earned the title “The MHA” after placing first in the “Plus Ultra Stage” of voting. Series creator Kohei Horikoshi will design the statue and it will be exhibited in Japan sometime in 2025. Its location and dimensions will be revealed at a later date.
Around 6.12 million votes were counted in total. Bakugo placed first in almost every continent, except for Europe, where he placed second to main protagonist Izuku Midoriya. Overall, Bakugo, Midoriya, and Todoroki rounded the top three rankings in the poll’s final results.
The popularity poll was launched after the release of the manga’s final chapter on August 5, 2024. It began with a two-month voting period called the “Main Stage” from August 5, 2024 at 6:00 PM JST to September 30, 2024 at 11:59 PM JST.
It was then followed by a final round of voting called “Plus Ultra Stage,” which was held for 24 hours to determine the number one character from the top three ranking characters from the last voting period.
