Two new cast members are joining the upcoming second season of Toilet Bound Hanako-kun, which will premiere in Japan on January 11, 2025. 

The new cast plays two of the Three Clock Keepers and include Hochu Otsuka as Kako, who controls the past, and Rie Kugimiya as Mirai, who controls the future. 

They join a returning main voice cast that includes: 

  • • Megumi Ogata as Hanako-kun
  • • Akari Kito as Nene Yashiro
  • • Shoya Chiba as Ko Minamoto
  • • Minako Sato as Aoi Akane
  • • Shunichi Toki as Akane Aoi

The anime’s staff also previously announced that Akari Kito, who voices Nene Yashiro, will perform the second season’s ending theme “With a Wish.” Meanwhile, singer Masayoshi Oishi is performing the opening theme song “L’oN.”

Season two will be directed by Yohei Fukui (Bakugan: Evolutions assistant director, Toilet Bound Hanako-kun Episode 10 director), with Yasuhiro Nakanishi (Toilet Bound Hanako-kun) as series screenwriter and Mayuka Ito (Toilet Bound Hanako-kun) as character designer. Lerche is handling the animation production. 

The second season and the spinoff short anime series After-school Hanako-kun are part of a new Hanako-kun project that was first announced in December 2022. The first season of Toilet Bound Hanako-kun aired in 2020 and ran for 12 episodes. The first season of After-school Hanako-kun consisted of four 10-minute episodes that aired in 2023. The short series’ second season began airing another four episodes on October 7, 2024. 

The anime is based on the manga by creative duo AidaIro (consisting of writer Iro and illustrator Aida) that was first serialized in Square Enix’s Monthly G Fantasy magazine on June 18, 2014. Twenty-two tankobon volumes have been released as of July 2024, with a 23rd volume set for release on December 27, 2024. 

The After-school Hanako-kun spinoff manga debuted in 2018 and has released two tankobons as of February 2024. Yen Press releases both manga series in English for North America.
