TV Asahi announced during a livestream that it is producing a new short TV anime series titled Koupen-chan, based on Rurutea‘s illustrations of the eponymous character. The short anime will premiere sometime in Spring 2025.

A key visual and 31-second trailer were also released, featuring the baby emperor penguin’s cuteness and infectious positivity. The anime will follow the day-to-day life of Koupen-chan and his friends as they enjoy the little things in life.

Kyo Yatate (Bananya) is directing the short anime series, with Yoichi Kato (Duel Masters 2017) as series screenwriter, Hiroyuki Nemoto (Heaven’s Design Team) as art director, and Akiyuki Tateyama (Laid-Back Camp) as music composer. Lesprit is handling the animation production for the series.

Rurutea first debuted their Koupen-chan character on social media in 2017, which has inspired several merchandise.
