January 1, 2025 has brought with it the news that The Irregular at Magic High School: Yotsuba Succession Arc anime movie will be premiering sometime “NEXT WINTER.”
A visual and New Year’s video for the sequel film were also released.
The Irregular at Magic High School: Yotsuba Succession Arc was announced in mid-2024 after the end of The Irregular at Magic High School Season 3. Yotsuba Succession Arc is also the subtitle of the light novel series’ 16th volume, which Yen Press describes as:
The invitation has arrived. It is time for the New Year’s Reception at the Yotsuba family residence. This year, Miyuki and other candidates will gather there to decide who will be the next leader of their powerful clan. If chosen as the successor, she would never have to see her brother live as a pariah ever again. At the same time, such a position surely entails a political marriage, plunging her mind into complete turmoil. Complicating matters, the current head of their family sows doubt with the shocking claim that Miyuki is not Tatsuya’s sister. When the new year comes, their relationship may be changed forever…
The Dengeki Bunko light novel series that inspired The Irregular at Magic High School anime are written by Tsutomu Sato and illustrated by Kana Ishida. The books started publication in March 2011 and ended with 32 volumes in September 2020, with a sequel series beginning in October 2020. Yen Press describes the first volume as:
The year is 2095. Magic has been tamed as another form of technology, and the practice of magic is now a rigorous discipline. Brother and sister Tatsuya and Miyuki Shiba are just about to start their first year at the renowned First Magic High School of Japan. But the school’s ironclad rules mean that the brilliant Miyuki enters the prestigious Course 1, while her older brother, Tatsuya, is relegated to Course 2–and that’s just the beginning of their troubles!
The anime began with a 2014 Madhouse-produced first season. This was later followed by the Eight Bit produced The Irregular at Magic High School The Movie: The Girl Who Calls the Stars (2017), The Irregular at Magic High School: Visitor’s Arc (2020), The Irregular at Magic High School: Reminiscence Arc (2021), and the 2024 third season. The Connect-produced The Honor Student at Magic High School, an adaptation of one of The Irregular at Magic High School‘s spin-offs, aired in 2021.
The Irregular at Magic High School was originally a web novel that debuted on Shousetsuka ni Narou in 2008.
