Talking about the new single, Yonezu says:

I’ve been an avid fan of the original manga. When I saw that the manga was going to be made into an anime, I couldn’t resist reaching out to offer my music. That’s how it led to the creation of “BOW AND ARROW”. It’s a great manga, I urge every human being to read this manga series. I’m also anticipating the anime as just a viewer. Wait there for the song as well.

Medalist first premiered in Japan on January 5, 2024 and is expected to run for 13 episodes. Disney+ is streaming the series worldwide, outside of Japan, while Hulu is streaming it exclusively in the U.S., which includes an English dub.

Yasutaka Yamamoto (The Tale of the Outcasts, Nekopara) is directing the anime series, with Jukki Hanada (The Dangers in My Heart) as series screenwriter, Chinatsu Kameyama (In Another World With My Smartphone 2) as character designer and co-chief animation director, and Yuki Hayashi (My Hero Academia) as music composer. ENGI is in charge of the animation production.

Former Olympic skater Akiko Suzuki is choreographing the skating routines in the anime, in collaboration with retired figure skater Yuhana Yokoi and active competitive figure skater Hinano Isobe.

The anime is based on the figure skating manga series by Tsurumaikada, which began serialization in Kodansha’s Monthly Afternoon on May 25, 2020 and has released 12 tankobon volumes as of January 2025.

Kodansha USA releases the Medalist manga series in English, and describes the main synopsis as:

Tsukasa, whose dreams were crushed. Inori, left to fend for herself. These two share a dream…and their tenacity may be the only thing that sees them through. Their destination? The ice…on the world’s stage!
