The upcoming Once Upon a Witch’s Death TV anime adaptation has received its first main trailer (labelled as the second official trailer in English), which includes a preview of the opening theme song “Drops” by Maaya Sakamoto. It reveals an April 1 JST premiere date as well.

Additionally, new cast announcements have been made. Shizuka Ito is voicing Inori, the Witch of Wisdom, while Yoko Hikasa is voicing Eldora, the Witch of Calamity.

Once Upon a Witch’s Death adapts the novel written by Saka and illustrated by Chorefuji. Yen Press describes the book, which it publishes with the title Once Upon a Witch’s Death: The Tale of the One Thousand Tears of Joy, as:

On Meg’s seventeenth birthday, she learns that she only has one year left to live. Her mentor—the Eternal Witch, Faust—explains that she is cursed and the only way to save herself is to grow a seed of life using one thousand tears of joy. Of course, such tears aren’t easy to come by. As Meg begins her quest, she finds herself drawn into the lives of her friends and neighbors in ways she never imagined. By sharing their burdens and using her magic to comfort them, she learns how precious those moments of connection can be even in the face of death.

The novel was published under KADOKAWA’s Dengeki no Shinbungei label in 2021 and received a follow-up in 2024. There is a manga adaptation by Kenu Amearare
