The official Twitter/X and website for the upcoming The Dinner Table Detective TV anime series announced that the real-life character mascots of Kunitachi, Tokyo will be joining the show’s voice cast as part of a collaboration with the city. The anime will begin airing on Fuji TV’s Noitamina programming block on April 4, 2025. 

Kunitachi mascots Kuninyan and Yaho Rangers will appear in the anime with the following cast members: 

  • • Yui Horie as Kuninyan
  • • Satoshi Nakao as Yaho Ranger Red
  • • Taichi Takeda as Yaho Ranger Blue
  • • Kosuke Echigoya as Yaho Ranger Yellow

They join a main voice cast that includes Kana Hanazawa as Reiko Hosho, Yuki Kaji as Kageyama, and Mamoru Miyano as Kyoichiro Kazamatsuri. 

Mitsuyuki Masuhara (Polar Bear Café) is directing the anime, with Mariko Kunisawa (Orient) as series screenwriter, Izumi Kawata (Gold Kingdom and Water Kingdom co-sub character designer) as character designer, and Oreko Tachibana as original character designer. Madhouse is in charge of the animation production. 

The anime is based on the mystery novel series by Tokuya Higashigawa, which was first published by Shogakukan on September 2, 2010 and concluded on December 12, 2012. A total of three volumes were released during its publication. The series started as a serialized work in 2007. 

The novels inspired a 2011 live-action TV drama and film, stage play, and manga adaptation, which was released in April 2011.

The Dinner Table Detective novel series takes place in Kunitachi, Tokyo, where young heiress Reiko Hosho, the daughter of the owner of Hosho Group, has become a first-time detective with Inspector Kazamatsuri, the son of the owner of Kazamatsuri Motors. The two work together to solve difficult cases, along with Reiko’s blunt-speaking butler Kageyama.
