The upcoming Puella Magi Madoka Magica –Walpurgisnacht Rising- anime film has received its first key visual, which displays Homura Akemi and Madoka Kaname side-by-side with contrasting backdrops.
The tagline in the visual says, “I will fulfill the promise from that day, even if it differs from your desire.”
Puella Magi Madoka Magica –Walpurgisnacht Rising- is set to debut in Japan in winter 2025, following a delay from its winter 2024 release window. It was first announced in April 2021. The film continues the story that began with the 2011 TV anime Puella Magi Madoka Magica and originally ended with the 2013 sequel film Puella Magi Madoka Magica: Rebellion.
Crunchyroll describes the original TV series as:
She has a loving family and best friends, laughs and cries from time to time… Madoka Kaname, an eighth grader of Mitakihara middle school, is one of those who lives such a life. One day, she had a very magical encounter. She doesn’t know if it happened by chance or by fate yet. This is a fateful encounter that can change her destiny- This is a beginning of the new story of the magical witch girls.
A TV anime adaptation of the now-defunct Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story aired from 2020 to 2022 with three seasons (the second season had eight episodes, while Final Season had four). A new Madoka Magica game, Madoka Magica: Magia Exedra, is set to be released on mobile on March 27, 2025 JST.
