Game developer and publisher C#4R4CT3R is releasing Rain98, a “lo-fi psycho-thriller romance adventure set in ’90s Tokyo,” on Steam in Q3 2025. Gematsu has uploaded a trailer that previews the game’s vibe, gameplay, and main heroine.

That heroine is Reina Amehara (Rio Tsuchiya), who’s described as “a girl with a mysterious and somewhat dangerous charm to her.” She joins you in an apartment room and “Together, you decide you have to perform a strange ritual… to save the world from destruction.”

Adding to the mystery, Rain98‘s Steam page says that you’ll have keep Reina appeased to avoid “terrible, terrible things happening,” and that your time with your mysterious companion will be “sweet, bitter, somewhat scary, and always strange.”

Also mentioned are minigames, trips outside the apartment, lo-fi music, and an experience that will have you questioning the game’s reality. “Things start feeling off, your memories become foggy, and Reina still holds onto a secret. Is what you see real? Is it your mind playing tricks on you? Tokyo’s rain washes the truth away,” teases the description.

The game’s short description adds to the intrigue: “Tokyo, 1998. A rain that never ends and a girl who wants everything to end. Two lonely youths will change the world with their choices.”

Rain98 will include support for 16 languages, among them English, Simplified Chinese, and Korean.
