Gawr Gura, the popular shark girl VTuber under hololive English, has announced her graduation on May 1. The announcement was made through her latest stream on YouTube, and was confirmed by the agency.
In her latest announcement stream, she stated that her graduation was rooted with disagreements with the management and the current company direction, but is still thankful that she became part of the agency, especially being able to meet her fellow talents, as well as being able to perform for fans, a dream she wanted to achieve for a very long time.
Meanwhile, the agency noted in their announcement that since Gura’s debut as a member of hololive English -Myth- five years ago, she has touched the hearts of fans around the world, become a beloved face for VTubing in its early stages, and played an instrumental role in the growth of hololive production.
“To all the fans who have shown their unwavering love and support, we sincerely thank you. While we understand that this news may be difficult for many, we deeply respect and support Gura’s decision as she begins her next chapter. We are endlessly grateful for Gura’s remarkable contributions and wish her nothing but success and happiness on her journey forward.”
In terms of various services related to her, hololive stated that fan letters for Gura will be accepted until May 1, while membership and exclusive member content will be available until August 1 this year.
Gura debuted as part of hololive English’s first generation “-Myth-“ alongside Ninomae Ina’nis, Takanashi Kiara, Watson Amelia and Mori Calliope on September 13, 2020. A year after her debut, she surpassed VTubing pioneer Kizuna Ai as the most-subscribed VTuber, with over 4.5 million subscribers on YouTube as of this writing.
Her graduation is one of many recent graduations from the agency, including Nanashi Mumei, Murasaki Shion, Ceres Fauna, and Minato Aqua; as well as talents Amelia Watson and Sakamata Chloe stepping down from the agency in favor of being categorized as “affiliates.”
