Leading up to her VTuber graduation on May 1, Gawr Gura has released her final song, “Ash Again.” The single was made in collaboration with Casey Edwards of Devil May Cry fame (Bury the Light, Devil Trigger).
The music video features animation by Mazu, who is well known in the hololive community for the animated series “Myth’s Bad Ending.”
“This song was very hard to sing, an extreme emotional battle with myself. Every time I came to work on the song — vocals, or meeting about lyrics, or anything like that —I had to prepare myself mentally because I am going to cry,” Gura said during her latest livestream.
“This song is a piece of my soul that I get to leave with you forever.”

Gura shared that the project was a shot in the dark. Reaching out to her dream team, she doubted whether it would be approved, and if it was even possible. But it would be a dream come true.
“I am incredibly proud of this project. The team involved is, was, and will forever be my dream team.
“Working with Casey was so awesome. He listened to my story, he listened to everything I had to say. He took everything that I said and turned it into a piece of music that is so meaningful to me, and so powerful that I-
“I’m a bit speechless. Casey took the storm that was in my head and in my heart and just turned into a piece of music that I will cherish for the very rest of my life.”

Following the door motif seen in the “Ash Again” music video, she imparted her fans with the following:
“When one good thing comes to an end, another good thing will start. When one door closes, another door opens. Good things come to an end, but that doesn’t mean good things come to an end forever.”

Gura, who many would argue is the poster child of EN VTubing, announced her graduation on April 14th. Amassing over 4.5 million subscribers in her four-and-a-half years with hololive, Gura has the largest following of any VTuber. She debuted in September 2020 alongside Amelia Watson, Mori Calliope, Takanashi Kiara, and Ninomae Ina’nis.
