The Detective Conan: One-eyed Flashback anime film is the top performer of the April 18 to 20 JST Japanese weekend box office rankings, with recorded numbers of 2.31 million moviegoers and 3.43 billion yen (~US$24.2 million) in box office earnings.
This gives it the strongest opening weekend of any Detective Conan film. The previous record-holder was last year’s Detective Conan: The Million-dollar Pentagram with 2.274 million moviegoers and 3.352 billion yen.
The new Detective Conan movie — the 28th in the franchise — had already got off to a good start on its very first day (April 18 JST), surpassing the day one earnings of The Million-dollar Pentagram of 960 million yen with 1.05 billion yen (~US$7,463,709.39).
Detective Conan: One-eyed Flashback‘s story includes Kansuke Yamato as one of the key players. The official synopsis mentions the Mouri Detective Agency receiving a call from “Wani,” a former colleague of Kogoro’s, who brings up the presence of Kogoro’s name in a case file related to an avalanche that Kansuke was caught in.
Aside from Detective Conan: One-eyed Flashback, the April 18 to 20 JST Japanese weekend box office ranking also saw Doraemon: Nobita no Esekai Monogatari, the Me & Roboco film, Hypnosis Mic -Division Rap Battle-, and Demon Slayer‘s “Tsuzumi Mansion Arc” compilation placing in the top 10. Their respective places are second, fourth, eighth, and tenth.
