AnimEigo and MediaOCD have announced that the home media Blu-ray release of Nobody’s Boy Remi will be available on May 11, 2025. A total of 51 episodes will be presented in 3D and in high definition for the very first time. The series is being released under the “Ruined Childhood” product line.

In addition to the English subtitled version, the Blu-ray release will include a French language dub, but no English dub. A pair of 3D glasses will also be included, which utilizes the Pulfrich Effect, which is described as giving “a false sense of depth a viewer can feel from objects that move horizontally.”

Osamu Dezaki (Ashita no Joe, Aim for the Ace!) directed Nobody’s Boy Remi, with TMS Entertainment (then known as Tokyo Movie Shinsha) and Madhouse handling the animation production. Other main staff involved in the series included Akio Sugino (Cobra The Animation) as character designer, Shichiro Kobayashi (Angel’s Egg) as art director, and Takeo Watanabe (Candy Candy) as music composer.

The series aired in Japan from October 2, 1977 to October 1, 1978 and is available to watch in French dub on the Anime on TMS YouTube channel. RetroCrush is also currently streaming Nobody’s Boy Remi on its online service.

A film version of the series with the same director and studio was also released in 1980.

The anime itself is based on the 1878 novel Sans Famille by French writer Hector Malot

AnimEigo describes the main synopsis of Nobody’s Boy Remi as:

Remi was once a happy little boy, living with his mom and pet cow in the French countryside. But that joyous childhood comes to a screeching halt when daddy comes home, tells him he’s adopted, and sells him to a street performer. Suddenly forced to accompany the gruff Vitalis, his dogs and his monkey as they wander on foot all over the country, Remi thinks that life can’t possibly get worse. But he is VERY wrong.

Pre-orders for the Blu-ray are available on the MediaOCD online store
