The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten anime’s X (formerly Twitter) account has unveiled a Gemini-themed illustration of main heroine Mahiru drawn by Mieko Hosoi, a character designer who has provided the character designs for anime like Grimgar, Ashes and Illusions, Fate/Grand Order‘s opening animation, Assault Lily Bouquet, and the Fate/Grand Order Divine Realm of the Round Table: Camelot films (co-credit).
This artwork is the first in a line of Zodiac-themed illustrations that will be doled out on a monthly basis. Prior to this new project, the anime’s account had released various illustrations for its followers to view, with the main purpose of the art ranging from being used for merchandise to commemorating occasions like GA FES 2024.
The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten is based on the romantic comedy light novels written by Saeki-san, which are published under SB Creative’s GA Bunko label. The first season ran from January to March 2023, with the second season announced in October 2023. Crunchyroll describes it as:
To thank him for his kind gesture, Mahiru cooks and cleans for her untidy neighbor Amane. But what was just a generous show of gratitude turns into more as they grow closer. This is the story of a sweet romance between a boy and the girl next door.
Yen Press has licensed the light novel series, which ranked first in the This Light Novel Is Amazing! 2024 Bunko, Web Survey, Female Character (Mahiru Shiina), Male Character (Amane Fujimiya), and illustrator categories. The series started in 2019 and has 11 main volumes as of March 2025. For the first volume, current illustrator Hanekoto only drew the cover art while Hazano Watake drew the rest of the illustrations.
The story started as a Shoutsetsuka ni Narou web novel in 2018. The light novels have inspired a Square Enix-published manga adaptation by Wan Shibata.
