Ahead of the first episode of the YOUR FORMA anime, Anime Trending got the chance to sit down with director Takaharu Ozaki, best known for his work on GOBLIN SLAYER and WAVE!! -Let’s go surfing!!, to discuss how he brought Mareho Kikuishi’s light novel to life and what inspired the sci-fi, futurist visuals that the series is known for.

For those unfamiliar with YOUR FORMA, could you give a quick overview?
Takaharu Ozaki: YOUR FORMA, rather than a “near-future” story, it’s more of an alternative present day. Imagine having a smartphone implanted in your brain. A cyberbrain. The story also involves robots, which are referred to today as AI. They don’t have a human form, but they make our lives easier. Stuff like generative AI and other technologies we use today. Among them, there is something called “cyber investigation.”
A young girl named Echika teams up with a robot named Harold. They enter people’s minds and investigate.
When did you first learn about the series?
Takaharu Ozaki: I’ve known about it for quite a while. I think I first learned of it around three years ago? Sometime in 2022. An acquaintance of mine, a producer at Geno Studio, told me about the series. That was my first time learning about the series. After reading it, I was like, “Oh, this is interesting.” So I agreed to work on it.
