The GATE anime adaptation is getting a sequel titled GATE Season 2: Tides of Conflict (GATE Season 2: Jieitai Ka no Umi nite, Kaku Tatakaeri).

The new anime is directed by Toru Takahashi (Inari Kon Kon) at Studio M2. Shigeru Fujita (PLUTO) is the character designer, while Tatsuhiko Urahata (Baki Hanma series composer) is the series composer and script writer.

The anime also has a website that accepts contributions, with rewards including character concept sketches and a merchandise pack depending on tier level.

The first GATE season premiered in 2015 and ran for two split cours. The anime is based on the Alphapolis-published light novel series by Takumi Yanai, which started in 2010 and entered “Season 2” in 2017. Alphapolis also publishes the manga adaptation, which it describes as:

On a certain summer day in the year 20XX, in broad daylight a gate to another world appears in Ginza, Tokyo. An army and a swarm of monsters come storming through the gate. The Japan Ground Self-Defense Force is able to defeat the invaders and they head through the gate into uncharted lands. An epic fantasy about a battle between the human race and another world filled with dangerous enemies and beasts!

The previous anime was an A-1 Pictures production with Takahiko Kyogoku as director.
