The Gintama franchise is getting a brand new anime film, subtitled Yoshiwara Daienjo, in 2026. A teaser trailer and teaser visual have been released.
The movie (Shingekijoban Gintama -Yoshiwara Daienjo-) is adapting the “Yoshiwara Enjo” arc — which the TV series previously covered from Episode 139 to 146 — and including new content with the big screen experience.
Staff credits for the film include:
• Director: Naoya Ando (Paradox Live THE ANIMATION, Kemono Friends 2 assistant director)
• Supervisor: Yoichi Fujita (Gintama director)
• Scriptwriter: Taku Kishimoto (Sakamoto Days series composer, the upcoming The Camphorwood Custodian)
• Character designer and chief animation director: Shinji Takeuchi (Gintama)
• Animation production: BN Pictures
Tomokazu Sugita, Daisuke Sakaguchi, and Rie Kugimiya are returning as Gintoki Sakata, Shinpachi Shimura, and Kagura, respectively.
2026 will mark the 20th anniversary of the Gintama TV anime, which premiered three years after the manga’s 2003 start.
The anime series ultimately ran until 2018 for four seasons. There are also a few anime movies, including 2021’s Gintama THE FINAL and a recent spate of Gintama on Theater 2D films that are theatrical re-edits of previously adapted arcs.
Hideaki Sorachi‘s Shueisha-published Gintama manga released its 77th and final tankobon volume in 2019. It spent most of its run in Weekly Shonen Jump, but some of its later chapters were published in Jump GIGA in 2019, and the concluding chapters were released via a Gintama app. Twenty-three volumes were published in English by Viz Media.
In addition to Shingekijoban Gintama -Yoshiwara Daienjo-, Gintama fans can look forward to the previously announced anime adaptation of the 3-nen Z-gumi Ginpachi-sensei spin-off.
