If you wanted an anime where an evil baby fires a sniper rifle at a behatted swordsman, look no further than Japanese band King Gnu‘s new anime music video for its September digital release “SO BAD.”
Directed by Nonashi Baisun at A-1 Pictures, the four-minute animation features hordes of werewolves, a baby (not the same baby as the sniper rifle one) who falls from the sky and comes into the custody of the aforementioned swordsman (he has a pistol too) and his buddies, and other sorts of zaniness. All this is delivered through an aesthetic that makes the video feel like an anime from some corner of the 2000s.
Among the other staff credits for the “SO BAD” music video are:
• Planning, original story, direction: OSRIN
• Character designers: harakiri, OSRIN
• Storyboard (animation part direction boards): koya (KENJA) harakiri
• Assistant director: Megumi Maeda
• Colorist and paint checker: Kanako Hokari (My New Boss is Goofy)
• Background art director: Ryuta Hayashi (Ranma 1/2 Season 2 co-background art director)
• Compositing director: MAPPA’s Haruka Juta
“SO BAD” is the theme song for Universal Studio Japan’s Halloween Horror Night’s Zombie de Dance attraction. The main characters in the video are the King Gnu members themselves, says Music Natalie.
