Professional animators, illustrators, and manga artists have began uploading their own low angle perspective drawings of the titular elf from Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, inspired by a recent fan art from SpaceDev1 so viral it’s now the subreddit icon of r/Frieren.
Among the artists was Tsukasa Kotobuki (Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin and Mobile Suit Gundam: Cucuruz Doan co-character designer), who acknowledged the difficulty of the perspective and commented that the angle of the ears proved to be a greater challenge than the chin.
Oda Takashi, an artist who’s a member of Kyoto Seika University’s Faculty of Manga and the Japanese Society of Artistic Anatomy, dove deeper into the anatomical aspect of the perspective with a series of drawings that included showcases of the skeleton and muscles.
Meanwhile, manga artist Shinobu Take (Guns and Girls, Hidan no Aria-chan) went for a Shaft tilt-inspired approach:
Here’s a few more:

Illustrator BANILIZO shows not just the completed work but their process. They say they approach unfamiliar angles by starting with a box.
I’m not sure if artist tenten fits the “professional” category, but they sure went all out by having Fern draw not just low-angle Frieren, but also low-angle Aura, with Frieren holding up the demon’s head for reference

Contemporary artist Kono Tsubasa gave props to SpaceDev1 for tackling such a challenging angle and noted that their own attempt turned Frieren into “JoJo’s Bizarre Frieren.”
Manga artist Bonkara‘s take.
The last drawing for this article is one from animator and character designer Masato Anno, who did character designs for Flying Witch, Slow Start, and some The Idolmaster Cinderella Girls Starlight Stage commercials.
This unexpected form of Frieren-related internet virality, which also reached Frieren’s English voice actor Mallorie Rodak, comes just a couple of months before Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Season 2 debuts. The new season of the anime, an adaptation of the Shogakukan-published fantasy manga written by Kanehito Yamada and drawn by Tsukasa Abe, will premiere in Japan on January 16, 2026 and features notable main staff changes.
The manga went on a new hiatus last month, with an intention to adapt a serialization pacing that’s better for the creators’ well-being.
