ChungKang Animation School Releases MacGuffin Short Film featured image

South Korea’s ChungKang Animation School has uploaded the 2024 student short film MacGuffin onto its YouTube channel.

According to animation enthusiast account Catsuka, the short was previously released in 2024 for one month. Catsuka also says that the 2026 release has reworked compositing and “lots of other small changes.”

MacGuffin involves a rift between two childhood friends and features a mix of real-world scenes, fantasy environments, and classic top-down Japanese game aesthetics. The synopsis reads:

‘MacKenzie’, who is bothered that her childhood friend ‘Anzu’ is ignoring her, experiences a peculiar event when, by a twist fate, she becomes possessed by ‘Anzu’.

tokei. directed the short and came up with the story. Some of the other credits include Nanman as character designer and Lee Da Hyeon as baxkground director.
