For April Fools’ Day, the ZUTOMAYO band has dropped a music video in the style of a Magical Girl TV anime opening from the 90s.

The color choices, character designs, aspect ratio, and font design for the lyric subtitles and credits all serve to evoke the feeling of an bygone era, backed up by the deliberate sound quality of the song (which is titled “ultra tamashi”). The fictional anime this opening belongs to is ZUTOMAYO CARD -THE BATTLE BEGINS- Season 1.

Illustrator and animator G-ko (“Orbital Resonance” music video) directed the animation, while illustrator Yutaka Kinutani contributed the character designs. Other credits include YAMAAD as animation producer, the recently formed indie creative outfit bees inc. for creative production, and CAMBR for production.
