The Gundam Conference Spring 2026 has revealed plans for new Mobile Suit Gundam Wing “video” content, as well as a remaster project for the original Mobile Suit Gundam. The latter is planned to be out in 2029.
Mobile Suit Gundam Wing celebrated its 30th anniversary last year, which saw the launch of a manga set between its Endless Waltz OVA follow-up and the sequel novel Frozen Teardrop, a theatrical re-release of Endless Waltz in Japan and America, and a 30th anniversary video. The TV anime saw five young pilots of the formidable Gundam mechs being sent to Earth to battle for the freedom of the space colonies.

Meanwhile, the franchise’s originator will hit its 50th anniversary in 2029. The premise sees young Amuro inadvertently becoming an important soldier in the war between the Earth Federation and the Principality of Zeon when a Zeon attempt to capture the Federation’s new Gundam mobile suit leads to Amuro becoming its pilot, as well as the rival of the renowned Zeon ace Char Aznable, the Red Comet. The Universal Century setting it introduced has featured in numerous sequels and spin-offs, and even inspired an alternate version with last year’s Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX. It’s also the setting of the new Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway: The Sorcery of Nymph Circe movie, which premiered in Japan in January and in the United States on May 15.
Masashi Ikeda (Takane no Jitensha, Wistoria: Wand and Sword opening storyboard artist et al.) was the initial director for Mobile Suit Gundam Wing, before the troubled production saw Shinji Takamatsu (RobiHachi) taking over. Other staff include Katsuyuki Sumizawa (Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon) as series composer, Shuko Murase (Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway director) as character designer, and Kunio Okawara (Mobile Fighter G Gundam and Mobile Suit Gundam Seed co-mechanical designer, Armored Trooper Votoms), Hajime Katoki (Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway co-character designer), and Junya Ishigaki (Expelled from Paradise) as mechanical designers. Yasunao Aoki (Yakitate!! Japan) directed Endless Waltz.
Mobile Suit Gundam was directed by Gundam co-creator Yoshiyuki Tomino with character designs by Yoshikazu Yasuhiko (Mobile Suit Gundam: Cucuruz Doan director) and mechanical designs by Okawara.
