A main trailer has been released for the upcoming Chainsmoker Cat TV anime, which had a key visual and July 2, 24:30 JST (effectively July 3, 00:30 JST) broadcast start date revealed in April. The first half shows protagonist Yani being a disastrous member of society, with one scene showing the catgirl collecting cigarettes that had been inadvertently embedded roadside poop while citing the three-second rule.

The trailer’s second half features the supporting cast of beastfolk, who are questionable in their own way.

There are also theme song reveals. The opening, previewed in the trailer, is “Nan Mo Ne” by Wasureranneyo, while the ending is “Tabako to Blue” by NECRY TALKIE

Chainsmoker Cat (Yanineko) is based on the manga by Nyan Nyan Factory. Seven Seas Entertainment describes the manga’s synopsis as such:

Where there’s smoke, there’s a catgirl chainsmoking in this comedy manga! A look at the daily troubles of one catgirl and her attempts to get her life together.

Welcome to Yani’s apartment. Please don’t mind the smell. Yani is a catgirl with a seriously bad smoking habit. Every time she tries to quit, she becomes weak to the cravings and gives in almost instantly.

Behind on her rent and unable to hold down a job, her friends and sister rally around to help her out. But when she’s using her pee to put out cigarette fires, they may just have their work cut out for them.

Will she ever get her life together, or is she doomed to live as a chainsmoking slob forever?

Studio Lemon’s Taku Kimura (Dragonite and the Special Delivery) is directing the anime at Bibury Animation Studios with Takashi Aoshima (The 100 Girlfriends Who Really, Really, Really, Really, REALLY Love You series composer) as scriptwriter, Riki Matsuura (Chainsaw Man: Reze Arc Devil designer) as character designer and Keiichi Suzuki as music composer. Yuko Natsuyoshi is the voice of Yani.

The manga started serialization in Kodansha’s seinen manga publication Young Magazine in 2023 and has 12 volumes as of May 2026. It was originally a Twitter comic.
