Director Norihiro Naganuma has announced the production of a new upcoming original anime project titled Jurassic Shadows at Anime Expo 2026, which sees a dangerous conflict between dinosaurs and ninjas in modern Tokyo, Japan.
A trailer for the anime project and accompanying concept visual have also been unveiled.
Jurassic Shadows will be directed by Naganuma, who was the director of The Apothecary Diaries Season 1, its chief director for Season 2, and will be directing its upcoming anime film that will debut later this December. Kenta Ihara (Saga of Tanya the Evil, Ishura Seasons 1-2) is writing the project’s screenplay.
Other staff involved in the project include manga artist Yoichi Amano (AKABOSHI -Ibun Suikoden-) as original character designer, Yukiko Nakatani (The Apothecary Diaries Seasons 1-2, Go! Princess Precure) as character designer, Misato Aida (My Master Has No Tail, Tatsuki Fujimoto 17-26 “Love is Blind”) as color designer, Bamboo’s Yusuke Takeda (Agents of the Four Seasons: Dance of Spring) as art director, Makoto Honda as 3DCG director, and Shuhei Mutsuki (Lycoris Recoil) as music composer. Cannon Code is handling the animation production, while SlowCurve and Avex Pictures are credited with the anime’s development and production. SANB is credited with the original work.
A manga adaptation of Jurassic Shadows has also been confirmed for serialization by Kodansha and is currently in production. Details on the manga’s publication platform and launch date will be announced at a later time.
The main synopsis of Jurassic Shadows is described as:
Tokyo, 2029 –
Long believed to have vanished after the asteroid impact that caused their extinction, dinosaurs secretly survived by passing their DNA into humanity through interbreeding. Hidden among ordinary people, they now prey upon humans while living unnoticed within society.
Standing against them is a covert order of ninjas who wield Ryugesho, a special pigment infused with ancient memories. By applying this mysterious pigment, they awaken the powers of dinosaurs within themselves and fight back against the predators threatening humanity.
As the dinosaurs launch their campaign to wipe out humankind, the ninjas rise to stop them.
The battle for the survival of two species begins.
