A teaser trailer for the upcoming Shingo Natsume movie Ghost: End of Night (Ghost: Yoru no Hate) has been released, revealing some new footage while remaining almost as mysterious and inscrutable as July’s super teaser. The second half is filled with lines about “truth,” with one character commenting, “The truth is actually invisible to the eye.”
New story and character details reveal that in the world of Ghost: End of Night, where labor is no longer required, people undergo a “selection” at 18. Protagonist Nike was “selected” at just 15, carries special privileges, and manages the “starry sky” of a virtual reality network. However, Nike doesn’t gel with her world and tries to find a place where she belongs. One day, she runs into Mas, who lost his family in the past and still carries a great sense of loss. The synopsis teases that Nike eventually makes a “decision” that no one could have foreseen.
In addition to these, main cast details and a poster visual (which features the key visual with text and its February 11, 2027 release date added to it) were also unveiled. Mayu Hotta is voicing Nike, while Issei Takahashi is Mas.
Aside from directing, Natsume (One-Punch Man Season 1, The Tatami Time Machine Blues, Sonny Boy) is also writing the script for Ghost: End of Night. Other staff include manga artist Natsume Ono (whose ACCA: 13-Territory Inspection Department manga was adapted into a Natsume-directed TV anime) as original character designer, Norifumi Kugai (ACCA: 13, Sonny Boy) as character designer, and Ohzora Kimishima as music composer. Natsume, scriptwriter Tomohiro Suzuki (Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End and ACCA: 13-Territory Inspection Department series composer), the film’s distributor Bandai Namco Filmworks, and Madhouse are listed with Ghost‘s original story credit.
At the time of Ghost‘s announcement last June, the post for two stills described Nike as someone “rebelling against the irrationality of the world in order to protect the ‘starry sky.’” and said that the anime “lyrically” depicts her “solitude and bravery,” as well the “subtleties of the heart” that come from relationships with others.
